ABOUT 1-2-3 MAGIC
Why put effort into life?
With over a 200 hundred teachers, psychologists and
other key workers now trained and using this programme in schoolsin
the UK, you too can become a certified Why Try facilitator. Start using this
innovative programme in our schools and youth clubs.
The ‘WhyTry’ Program is a strength-based approach
to helping young people overcome their challenges and improve outcomes in the
areas of truancy, behaviour, and academics. It is based on sound, empirical
principals, including Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Social and Emotional
Intelligence, and Multi-Sensory Learning.
"From the first session onwards it was clear that the most
disaffected and vulnerable students in the year group were completely engaged
in the activities. Staff were delighted and wanted
more training in order to work with larger numbers of students."
Andy Mclaren, Schools Advisor
"I have been using the Why Try Programme in school with two groups of
year 9 & 10 students who have ADHD and are at risk of exclusion. The
visuals in this programme hold their attention and make a significant impact
on their ability to focus and empathise with each other during the
discussions. I would highly recommend this programme for teachers working
with special needs students who are difficult to engage. It is also very
useful for one to one therapy with adolescents."
Nancy Williams, Senior therapist, Studio ADHD Centre (Surrey)

children with ADHD, looking at strategies for the classroom, playground and

2010 Equality Act.
1 - 2 - 3 Magic for Teachers
1-2-3 Magic is a successful behaviour training programme that is easy to
understand and implement. It is very different from other programmes
available, as it is a simple but powerful approach to managing challenging
behaviour in the primary school.
1-2-3, offers techniques that are down-to-earth, child-friendly and make a
dramatic impact in a short time. The programme teaches children to become
good self managers. It was devised by clinical psychologist Thomas Phelan
PhD, a parent to two challenging kids. It is used by EBD and mainstream
schools alike. Teachers report it to be the simplest, faster and most
effective behaviour intervention they have ever used.
Feedback from previous courses
“The session was really well received by our staff and tonight they will
start to plan the implementation of the programme across the school” Pottersbury Lodge School
“I now have the time to teach” Yr 5 teacher Woodcroft
The programme can easily shared with parents, so that children experience the
same approach both at home and at school.
THis is a one day course for teachers wishing to
implement it in their school.
